Medical examiner determines doctor's death a suicide

ANCHORAGE - The high-profile doctor whose body was found in the Port of Valdez last week died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Valdez police said Tuesday after the state medical examiner released the results of an autopsy.

Andrew Embick shot himself in the head with a 12-gauge shotgun, Police Chief Joseph Michaud said. Divers recovered the weapon in the same area Embick's body was found Friday, two days after the doctor was last seen in his rowing scull.
